Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
