Christantus Uche Ignites Dominant Crystal Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite entering their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that all but guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal straight entry to the knockout stages, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This occasion provided a chance for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season were outmatched against a largely rotated Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.

Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee dismissed the protests.

Shelbourne were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
