Jennifer Lawrence States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Nation Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate fitting to voice opinions countering the Trump presidency, worried it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions across the United States.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains Lawrence

Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was running around in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, public figures do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”

The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

The actress has previously been open about supporting Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and stating she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.

Past Statements

Earlier in her career, she commented that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “since I think she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend abortion access.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted the actress regarding his leadership. “Since he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a young mom who deals with her emotional state in the countryside. During a media event for the film in the film festival, she commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is no less than a atrocity and it’s terrible.”

Wider Issues

She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”

Lawrence sought to redirect anger about the conflict to leaders rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she said, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge supported by thousands of Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Individual Insights

The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in her latest project. While Ramsay has disputed the story being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, the actress revealed that she did relate to aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, soon after shooting ended.

“It was fear for my son,” she explained, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also mentioned about the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the film while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.

“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
