Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" following a confrontation with a camera operator subsequent to the Citizens' 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, without a doubt. The reason why I want to defend my team is no doubt – based on my career to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

City's Position and Manager's Take

City are third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

The manager was asked about a potential quadruple could be achieved, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, did you hear my talk about the quadruple in December during our historic run? No."

Interaction with Guimarães

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno a long time and every time after the game, home or away, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and move my hands."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager addressed his squad immediately after a game. "Not if it's respectful as I do, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. Goodness, very much so."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR denied a spot-kick for a Fabian Schär challenge on Phil Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Subsequent images indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Upcoming Milestone

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, it means that every season annually," he said.

The club has ten points from four matches in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
