‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Moving Homage to Director Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the deceased director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Heartbreaking Event
Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home this past weekend.
“How we will long for this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Charges Filed
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being held without bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.
“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”
Family Members Issue a Message
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”
Peers Pay Their Respects
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”
A Lasting Cinematic Legacy
When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.
Reiner’s notable filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
